Part 2 of my bestiary. This one is a bakeneko. Bakeneko are Japanese yokai. It's said that as a regular housecat ages, they get wiser and their tail gets longer, until they get old enough to become a bakeneko. Bakeneko are wise and cunning, can change size and shape, are known to wear a napkin on their head (I forgot to put one here, apologies), raise the dead, and can even eat their owner and assume the owner's form. Bakeneko are the reason that Japanese cat breeds tend to have short tails - in order to keep a cat from turning into a bakeneko, they'd have their tails docked, or cats with long tails were killed or abandoned, until all that survived were the genes for short or no tails.
